Family members

Because of space constraints, it is not always possible to take a patient's family members. If there is room, one family member can travel with a patient. The requesting DHB is required to check with the St John crew before promising relatives they can accompany the Patient.

If the patient is critically ill or is a child/baby, then let the HTOC know if you feel it is important to allow for a family to travel. The HTOC will make every endeavour to provide the opportunity to allow a family member to accompany the patient to meet the emotional needs of the Patient and family.

With critical patients, when deciding on whether space exists for family members, consider the treatment and equipment requirements during transportation
